Julia Galef joins NYC Skeptics board of directors

We are pleased to announce that Julia Galef will join the NYC Skeptics board of directors, effective immediately. Julia's involvement with NYC Skeptics began in September of 2009 while writing an article for the Humanist covering the first NECSS conference (available here). Julia now serves on the NECSS organizing committee and is co-host of Rationally Speaking, the official podcast of the NYC Skeptics.

"In addition to being a gifted writer and public speaker, Julia's inquisitive and perceptive style make her an indispensable part of the Rationally Speaking podcast," said NYC Skeptics president Michael Feldman. He added, "Julia's dedication to skeptical activism and science education is second-to-none, and we are proud to welcome her to the NYC Skeptics board."

Ms. Galef spent several years doing research with social science professors at Columbia, Harvard and MIT, including a year writing case studies on international economics for Harvard Business School. She is currently a journalist and editor based in New York, focusing on science, rationality, and design. Along with philosopher of science Dr. Massimo Pigliucci, Julia is co-host of Rationally Speaking, the official podcast of the NYC Skeptics, and co-blogger at Dr. Pigliucci's website Rationally Speaking. She has moderated panel discussions at The Amazing Meeting and the Northeast Conference on Science and Skepticism ("Arguing with Non-Skeptics" - available here), and gives frequent public lectures to organizations including the Center for Inquiry and the Student Secular Alliance.

New York City Skeptics is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 educational nonprofit that promotes critical thinking, skeptical inquiry, and science education among the general public. For more information about NYC Skeptics please visit us online at http://www.nycskeptics.org.
